Shoe chat from the RunActive team
If you asked us which shoe gets handed over the counter more than almost any other, the Ghost would be right up there. The Ghost is a neutral daily trainer built for comfortable, consistent miles on the road. The cushioning is balanced, it feels steady underfoot, and it suits brand-new runners and old hands alike.
Easy recovery jogs, building up your weekly mileage, longer weekend runs: it handles all of them. It's not trying to be fast. It's comfortable and reliable, and it gets the job done.

A comfy, dependable option if you're newer to running, still finding your feet and building up distance at your own pace.
Perfect if you want a no-fuss shoe for social miles, steady runs and getting out with your running mates.
Training for a half or full marathon? It gives you a cushioned, consistent ride to see you through those longer sessions.
Who it isn't for
If one of these sounds more like you, here's what we'd point you towards instead.
The Ghost has a fairly stable neutral platform, but if you need more structured support for stronger overpronation, you may be happier in the Adrenaline GTS, its supportive sister shoe with added guidance.
Try: Brooks Adrenaline GTSPrefer a lower heel-to-toe drop and a more natural, flexible feel underfoot? Have a look at the Glycerin Flex. It has a lower drop, a more flexible sole and more ground feel.
Try: Brooks Glycerin FlexThe Ghost is made for everyday miles, not chasing PBs. For tempo sessions and faster workouts the Hyperion Max is a good training option, and the Hyperion Elite is the one for race day.

How it feels to run in
The first thing I noticed with the Ghost was the plush, comfortable step-in feel, which I've come to expect from Brooks. It fitted true to my usual running shoe size, and the updated upper gave a comfortable lockdown and a secure heel. I've got a slimmer foot, so I really appreciated having a narrow fit option. It felt snug and secure without losing any comfort.
Out on the road it was at its best at easy paces, with a consistent, comfortable ride for everyday mileage. There's a slight forward rocker that keeps things rolling, and if you liked previous Ghosts it'll all feel very familiar.
I could pick up the pace during a club interval session, but I was left wanting a bit more once things got quicker. For me, this is a shoe for comfortable miles, easy runs and steady training. If you want more punch for faster sessions, the Ghost Amp or Hyperion Max are worth a look.
“A dependable, consistent easy-day shoe that doesn't skimp on comfort. It sticks to what the Ghost does best and doesn't try to be something it isn't.”
Fit & sizing
The Ghost fits true to your usual running shoe size. It also comes in a range of widths, so there's a good chance one will suit your foot: narrow, standard (medium), wide and extra wide, depending on availability.
People especially like how secure the rearfoot fit is. If you do get the odd bit of heel slip, a runner's loop can lock your heel in place, and we're always happy to show you how to tie one in store.
As always, we'd suggest trying the shoe on and checking the fit while you're moving rather than going on your usual size alone. Our team can help you find the right width and lacing setup for a comfortable, secure fit.
Stick with your normal running shoe size as a starting point.
Several width options, depending on availability, so slim or broad feet are both covered.
A simple lacing trick that locks the heel in. Ask us and we'll show you.
The waterproof Ghost GTX has an updated invisible-fit liner, so unlike some older GTX models you shouldn't need to size up.
Free gait analysis
When we're working out whether the Ghost is right for you, we look at how you move through your stride, how the shoe feels underfoot, and whether its neutral platform gives you the right mix of comfort and support.
We'll also chat about your usual distances, what you're training for and how you like a shoe to fit. Then we can tell you whether the Ghost should be your daily trainer or whether another shoe in the Brooks range would suit you better.
Our gait analysis and fitting service is completely free, so you choose a shoe for how you run, not for the brand or how it looks.
Ghost vs alternatives
These are the comparisons we get asked about most on the shop floor.
Ghost vs
Think of the Adrenaline GTS as the Ghost's supportive sibling. Both are made for everyday running, but the Adrenaline adds Brooks' GuideRails support system to help manage excess movement. Worth a try if you like a more guided ride. The GTS name crops up on other Brooks models too, including the Glycerin GTS.
Pick the Ghost if you want a neutral, no-fuss ride.
Pick the Adrenaline if you'd like extra guidance.
Ghost vs
Both are neutral daily trainers, but the Glycerin is the more premium, plusher option for runners who put cushioning and comfort first. The Ghost gives a simpler, balanced ride for everyday mileage. It's a great all-rounder that doesn't go all-in on softness.
Pick the Ghost for a balanced all-rounder.
Pick the Glycerin if you want maximum plushness.
Ghost vs
The Ghost is the dependable daily-miles choice, with a comfortable, consistent ride for easy runs and general training. The Ghost Amp adds a livelier, more energetic feel. It's the better pick if you want a shoe that can do everyday miles and still feel responsive when you speed up.
Pick the Ghost for steady, comfy miles.
Pick the Amp if you want more bounce.

As a rough guide, lots of runners get around 400–800km out of a daily trainer. It depends on your running style, body weight, the surfaces you run on and how often you wear them. If the cushioning starts feeling flat, the outsole wears unevenly or niggles start creeping in, it might be time for a new pair.
Absolutely. The comfortable cushioning and dependable ride make it a good pick for everyday walking, travelling and long days on your feet. Just remember that walking and running in the same pair adds to the overall wear.
Its comfortable, consistent ride can make it a good option for easy running, but the right shoe depends on the injury and what you need. We'd recommend following your medical expert's return-to-running advice, then letting us check the fit and feel before you choose your next pair.
Yes. It's a simple, comfortable neutral daily trainer that's great for building up distance, whether you're starting Couch to 5K or working towards your first 10K. It's versatile enough for most easy and steady training runs.
Yes. The Ghost can comfortably handle marathon training and race day, especially if you'd rather have a reliable, cushioned shoe than something more aggressive.
It depends on how much support you need and how the shoe feels when you run. The Ghost has a fairly stable neutral platform, but if you'd benefit from more structured guidance, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS is worth trying. We can help you compare the two during a gait analysis and fitting.
